Vínculo agroalimentario entre el campo y la ciudad

Hacia un enfoque de metabolismo agroecológico para América Latina

Resumen

Un vínculo fundamental entre áreas rurales y urbanas cercanas ha sido la agricultura y sus productos, pero el comercio agro-alimentario mundial lo ha erosionado, al grado que las poblaciones urbanas no dependen más de las áreas agrícolas circundantes para alimentarse. Ese rompimiento del vínculo genera desequilibrios ecológicos. Este artículo presenta una construcción teórica para el estudio de los procesos socio-económicos y socio-ecológicos detrás del rompimiento y reconstrucción del vínculo agro-alimentario entre el campo y la ciudad en el contexto capitalista.  Se integra la teoría de la ruptura metabólica -proveniente de la economía y ecología política- y el enfoque de agroecología, el cual se desarrolló como ciencia, práctica agrícola y movimiento social campesino en América Latina. Se discute la pertinencia de este enfoque para América Latina.

Tania Hernández Cervantes, Universidad de York
Tania Hernández es doctora en Estudios Ambientales por la Universidad de York (Toronto, Ontario). Actualmente es investigadora asociada al CITY Institute de la universidad de York, en Toronto. Sus líneas de investigación examinan las dimensiones económicas, ecológicas y culturales del vínculo agroalimentario entre las ciudades globales y sus zonas rurales circundantes. Sus áreas de experiencia son economía ecológica; economía política y ecología; geografías de la alimentación y la agricultura; regímenes alimentarios.
