Inversión extranjera directa y medio ambiente: la evidencia
Abstract
Este artículo revisa y evalúa la evidencia empírica más importante y reciente de la relación entre inversión extranjera directa (IED) y medio ambiente mediante el uso de análisis cuantitativo general y/o estudios de caso. En cualquiera de los dos casos, no existen conclusiones generales. No obstante, la evidencia sugiere tres conclusiones importantes: primero, las diferencias en las regulaciones ambientales y/o en los costos de abatimiento de la contaminación no han sido determinantes mas que en el caso de las decisiones de localización de las industrias extractivas y altamente contaminantes. Segundo, la evidencia no muestra de forma definitiva un mejor desempeño ambiental de las empresas extranjeras en relación a las domésticas, por el simple hecho de ser extranjeras. Tercero, la competencia por atraer inversionistas extranjeros en una economía global ha obstaculizado el desempeño de los estándares ambientales locales y nacionales.Those authors who have publications with this magazine accept the following terms:
