MEDIO AMBIENTE, INTERESES NACIONALES Y COMPROMISOS GLOBALES, LOS RETOS DE LA CUMBRE DE RÍO DE JANEIRO
Abstract
Los jefes de gobierno de la mayoría de los países del mundo que se reunieron el mes de junio en Río de Janeiro enfrentaron en uno de los retos diplomáticos de mayor relevancia en la historia de la humanidad: establecer compromisos internacionales que conduzcan a una reducción efectiva en las tendencias universales hacia la destrucción del medio ambiente y la diversidad ecológica sin cancelar las posibilidades de crecimiento económico y las esperanzas de mejorar el nivel de vida, sobre todo en los países menos desarrollados.Veinte años después de haber celebrado una conferencia similar en Estocolmo que acapara la atención mundial, la atención sobre este asunto, los esfuerzos por dar a conocer las consecuencias que tiene el crecimiento sobre los recursos naturales y los ecosistemas del planeta se han multiplicado. El conflicto económico-ecológico ha pasado a formar parte de la mayoría de las agendas de los gobiernos nacionales y de organizaciones internacionales. Desafortunadamente, son pocas las soluciones que se han puesto en práctica a nivel internacional para revertir de manera efectiva varias de las tendencias al deterioro ambiental.References
