Abstract
En 1984, un grupo de 48 representantes de importantes empresas fundaron el Chicago Board Trade, una lonja creada con el fin de reunir a compradores y vendedores de una gran variedad de granos y otras materias primas en un ambiente abierto, competitivo yorganizado. En 1860 se instituyó el Mercado de Futuros de Chicago, con el fin de facilitar el libre comercio de los productos agrícolas sin las complejidades causadas por su manejo físico y almacenamiento.Con el paso del tiempo, el número de productos comercializados ha aumentado; se han incluido metales preciosos, divisas y otros instrumentos financieros.
